At
about 1:20 AM this morning, police reported scant information coming
in about a stabbing outside the Lismore ambulance station. It was
reported that a taxi driver was involved.
Police responded
very quickly reporting a patient in the taxi in a very bad way. They
did not wait for the ambulance. A police officer drove the taxi
directly to the hospital with police escorting. It is not known if
the taxi driver was the patient.
Police were also sent to
Lismore City Hall on Bounty Street where the initial crime scene was
said to have occurred. Other police were circulating looking for a
white Daihatsu Charade as a vehicle of interest.
Possible
registration details were provided and a crime scene was established
immediately at Lismore City Hall.
Just over 20 minutes later,
police in Casino called an urgent pursuit providing a number plate
similar to the one police were looking for. The pursuit travelled
south along Centre Street past Barker Street.
Police
reported the vehicle on fire a few seconds later and then a brief
foot pursuit was initiated along Centre Street before police
reported one person in custody.
A second police vehicle
checked the vehicle of interest to confirm no persons were still in
the vehicle. They reported a small fire for which fire brigade were
called. The road was closed by police and a second crime scene was
established.
A Lismore Radio reader reported the following in
relation to the pursuit in Casino:
'haha some idiot just tried to
outrun a highway patrol and paddwagon through casino in a
little charade. by the looks of it, it tried to go through
the southside roundabout and lost its front bumper and lost
control out front of the old folks home near the pub and
spun out. couldnt get close enough for pics, police woulda
got pissy' |
Police confirmed the description of the person of interest
wanted for the stabbing in Lismore as seen by a witness matched the
person of interest in custody for the pursuit in Casino.
A
number of police also spent a few hours off at the ambulance station
in Keen Street opposite the Lismore Workers Club where the patient
was first sighted by police. The crime scene at Lismore City Hall
will be in place for some time.
Police are making further
enquiries.

THE FACE OF A HERO
At
about 1:20 AM this morning, a horrible attack took place at Lismore
City Hall where a 17 year old girl named Alexis was set upon by a
male armed with a knife while walking home . She was repeatedly
stabbed around the body and head.
The 22 year old male who
attacked her was not known to her.
A passing taxi driver
named Brett witnessed the incident and intervened. The male quickly
left the location and took off in his vehicle. He was arrested a
short time later by police in Casino following a short vehicle
pursuit, vehicle crash and foot pursuit.
Brett then got
Alexis in his taxi and drove her to the nearby ambulance station
where police quickly arrived to assist. They commandeered the taxi
and rushed Alexis to Lismore Base Hospital where she underwent
emergency surgery.
We are pleased to report that Alexis is
doing well and recovering in hospital.
Alexis and her family
would like to thank Brett, the heroic taxi driver who intervened and
saved her life, the police, for responding so quickly and doing
everything they could to ensure Alexis was provided with treatment
as soon as possible, and everyone at Lismore Base Hospital for
looking after her and helping her on her road to recovery.
Alexis and her family would also like to thank all the well wishers,
prayers and support from her friends and the community.
We
hope Alexis has a very quick and full recovery. :)
