EARLY MORNING MACHETE ATTACK LEAVES ONE
INJURED AND ONE IN CUSTODY
Police in Casino
responded to a report about a machete attack in Johnston Street
Casino near Mortimer Lane shortly after 6am this morning.
Although
responding quickly, the person of interest had left the location in
a vehicle prior to police arriving. They found a male with multiple
wounds to his legs and an ambulance was requested.
Details
about the person of interest and a description of the vehicle being
driven and direction of travel were circulated. Police from the
surrounding area moved to try and intercept the vehicle of interest.
A short time later, police from Lismore sighted the vehicle
heading towards Lismore along Bentley Road. They moved in behind the
vehicle and followed while waiting for further police to assist with
a vehicle stop. They moved to stop the vehicle in Casino Street
South Lismore.
The
vehicle stopped without incident and the male person of interest was
taken into custody and transported to Lismore police station. The
machete was not located on the person of interest or in his vehicle.
A crime scene has been established at the address in Casino
and detectives are investigating the malicious wounding. The vehicle
was towed from the location in South Lismore.
