MOTHER'S DAY PURSUIT |

CHINDERAH TO CUDGERA CREEK
Being called
shortly before midnight on Sunday 10 May 2015, the following pursuit
commenced in Chinderah before police lost sight of the vehicle in
the vicinity of Cudgera Creek.
Audio of the pursuit has been
provided covering the time from when the pursuit commenced until the
vehicle of interest was last seen. The notes following cover that
time and a little further.

Police called urgent and initiated
a pursuit southbound along the M1 Pacific Highway at Chinderah
passing the weigh station. The vehicle of interest was wanted for
failing to stop.
Speed was 85 km/h as the vehicle seemed to
turned off the highway at Tweed Valley Way and then get back onto
the M1. Speed increased to 140 km/h in a 110 km/h zone. Traffic was
light.
Highway patrol police vehicles called onto the pursuit
and were moving into position from behind and ahead to try and
intercept the pursuit and provide assistance.
Speed continued
at 140/110 as the pursuit continued south along the M1. The pursuit
vehicle was a fully marked police sedan being driven by a leading
senior constable.
The road condition was described as dry
bitumen, dual carriageway and light traffic.
Police stated
they believed there was only one person on board not known to them.
The description of the vehicle came back as a 2009 white Nissan
X-Trail station wagon. It was not reported stolen and registered to
a Tweed Heads South address. There was a warning on the vehicle that
it may be driven by an unlicensed driver.

The pursuit was passing Eviron Road still heading southbound
approaching Clothiers Creek Road.
A highway police vehicle
sought permission to use road spikes and it was granted.
Excluding exceeding the speed limit and, the vehicle of interest was
travelling in lane 1. No other offences were being reported. Traffic
was light.
Highway police were coming quickly from behind
passing Tweed Valley Way and moving in ahead coming from Byron Bay
with road spikes.
The pursuit was passing Round Mountain Road
still doing 140/110 along dual carriageway.
Speed increased
to 160 km/h in a 110 km/h zone as the pursuit was approaching
Cudgera Creek Road.
Police reported the vehicle of interest
took the Cudgera Creek Road exit before turning right on Cudgera
Creek Road heading in a westerly direction.
The vehicle
turned right into Reserve Creek Road heading northbound. Speed was
100 to 110 km/h. Traffic was light. Police believed the speed limit
was 100.

The vehicle of
interest approached a junction in the road at Kanes Road where one
road was reported as gravel. Police lost sight of the vehicle. They
reported the vehicle took the bitumen road along Kanes Road.
Police were making their way to Round Mountain Road and other
locations to try to locate the vehicle.

A number of police were covering locations along Tweed Coast
Road coming from various directions. A memo was broadcast to keep a
lookout for the vehicle of interest.

Details about a person of interest possibly driving the vehicle
revealed a person with a disqualified licence on bail who was not to
occupy the driver seat of any vehicle and not to commit any offences
while on bail.
The vehicle of interest was not located.

Police went off at an address in
Tweed Heads to make further enquiries in relation to the earlier
pursuit. |
