CAR CRASHES INTO GOONELLABAH HOME
At
about 6am this morning (8 August 2015) police
received reports about an accident on Ballina Road.
A vehicle had reportedly crashed into a home at the
location near William Blair Avenue. The informant, a
neighbour, reported that everyone in the home seemed
ok as did the driver who was out of the vehicle.
A silver Ford was positioned into the front of
the house on the low side of the road. The vehicle
was reportedly westbound before crossing the centre
island where it hit and flattened a sign, crossed
onto the wrong side of the road, over the nature
reserve colliding with a power pole dropping wires
below their normal height before dropping down an
embankment like slope into the home.
One
witness at the scene reported the vehicle lost
control before veering onto the wrong side of the
road and into the house.
Another witness reported a second vehicle was
sighted westbound at high speed in close proximity
with the vehicle that crashed which returned a few
moments later eastbound. The driver of that vehicle
reportedly stopped to make sure the crashed vehicle
was ok before leaving again. Scratches were sighted
on the side of that vehicle.
Power lines were
at head height along the nature reserve and not much
higher than the height of an average height
semi-trailer across Ballina Road. The electricity
company were contacted to assist and arrived on
scene a short time later.
The road was
blocked at the time of writing (07:10) to allow for
the vehicle to be recovered.
No significant
delays are expected. |
